As Rita continued its march towards the state of Texas, the Port of Houston ceased operations yesterday. The closure of the Houston port could have shippers and logistics providers scrambling to find alternative routing options most likely through LAX/Long Beach and East Coast ports. Depending upon the severity of the storm, the Houston Port Authority is optimisitic that the port will re-open on Monday September 26th in order to avoid a major disruption of business. Houston is the world’s 6th largest port.
