Fuel Surcharge Increases
By Splatty • Oct 8th, 2005 • Category: Airlines

Although a majority of the airlines increased the fuel surcharge to $0.55 per kilo on September 5th of this year, we are now hearing reports that a few airlines are increasing their fuel surcharge to $0.70 per kilo. One airline announced a fuel increase to $0.89 per kilo. If the fuel market continues on this upward trend, shippers will be paying more for fuel than they do for the actual per kilo rate to transport their products on certain lanes. We will continue to keep you informed of any new developments relative to the fuel surcharge index.
The fuel index is based upon an average of the five U.S. jet fuel spot markets. Adjustments to the fuel surcharge occur when the index equals, exceeds, or falls below a specific fuel threshold for two consecutive weeks.
