Ocean Containers as Homes?

We’ve seen some interesting uses for ocean containers in the past and here’s another story from the AP about a couple utilizing containers to build a new home in Redondo Beach, CA.

Sven and Anna Pirkl say they hired an architect to design their shipping-container home because they weren’t interested in more traditional Spanish or Mediterranean designs.

The containers are also saving the couple money, since they come painted and insulated. The project is costing the couple $125 to $150 per square foot of building material, about half the cost of standard construction materials.

I can’t imagine what this will look like once complete, but the architect assigned to construct the home said that homes built with ocean containers will become more common in the future.
