KiplingerForecasts: Boeing to lead again in global aircraft market

The people from Kiplinger, who are often scarily accurate with their many forecasts, say that Boeing is in a prime position to once again take the lead in the aircraft market:
The Chicago-based manufacturer will soon reclaim the top spot in the $50-billion-a-year commercial aircraft industry as the fortunes of its European rival rapidly lose altitude. More delivery delays for the mammoth, double-decker Airbus A380 will likely fuel orders for Boeing’s 747-8, the latest incarnation of this classic American jumbo jet. Airbus is also suffering knocks from customers over its design of the long-range A350, which is supposed to be ready for delivery in 2010. Airbus will probably have to go back to the drawing board, pushing back the plane’s release date a couple of years. Once again, Boeing is in a position to reap the benefits as impatient carriers opt instead for the 787 Dreamliner.

…..major management reshuffles at Airbus and EADS, following news of the A380 delays, are likely to make potential customers even more wary of buying from the Europeans. Some carriers will probably prefer to hold off signing contracts with Airbus until they see how the new team of senior executives chooses to deal with the manufacturer’s problems.
Airbus also faces a real financial pickle over the long haul. EADS, which stands to lose roughly $2.5 billion through 2010 as a result of setbacks with the A380 and A350, will be tempted to request more financial assistance for Airbus from European Union nations.
We talked about Airbus’ recent troubles here.
