Beirut Cargo Transport Halted

By Splatty • Jul 14th, 2006 • Category: Airlines, Misc Logistics, Seafreight

With the recent unrest in Beirut, all cargo movement has been halted with the closure of the airport and seaport.

Commercial transport is at a standstill. “There is no commercial transport for the moment, unless by truck via Syria,” said Roy Abouzeid of Beirut-based forwarder Cargomaster early Friday morning. The forwarder said freight in Beirut is being held at government-run warehouses and “cargoes are safe.”

But on the same day, Israel bombed the bridge on the highway toward Damascus, Syria. Other reports say that the highway itself was blasted over Thursday night.
