The Journal of Commerce this week published their annual list of the world’s top container ports. As usual, it is only available via old fashioned print or electronically via subscriber, but here at least are the top 10 according to JOC:
1. Singapore – 23.19 million TEUs, +8.7% change
2. Hong Kong – 22.60 million TEUs, +2.8% change
3. Shanghai – 18.08 million TEUs, +24.3% change
4. Shenzhen – 16.20 million TEUs, +18.6% change
5. Busan – 11.84 million TEUs, +3% change
6. Kaohsiung – 9.47 million TEUs, -2.5% change
7. Rotterdam – 9.29 million TEUs, +12% change
8. Hamburg – 8.09 million TEUs, +15.5% change
9. Dubai – 7.62 million TEUs, +18.5% change
10. Los Angeles – 7.48 million TEUs, +2.2% change
It should be noted that Long Beach came in at number 11 with 6.71 million TEUs, so if you were to combine Long Beach and Los Angeles together their total would be 14.19 million TEUs, which would put Los Angeles/Long Beach combined in the number 5 spot. It’s also noted in the list that LA and Long Beach combined account for 40% of all U.S. containerized cargo.
