Bad news for Airbus: Emirates taking action against Airbus
By SwizStick • Oct 30th, 2006 • Category: Air Cargo, AirlinesI first noted good news for Airbus in yesterday’s post about Qantas sticking with the A380 and even ordering additional aircraft.
However, coming on the heels of that good news comes numerous reports about Emirates taking action against Airbus.
This report from the Independent states that while Emirates has decided to stand firm on their original order for the Airbus A380, they also had some strong words for Airbus’ management:
Tim Clark, the president of the Gulf carrier, described Airbus’s handling of the A380 fiasco as “woeful” and said that Emirates had not ruled out further delays in the delivery of the 45 aircraft it has on order.

“I have been fairly vocal to Airbus about their need to improve their communications with their client base. I read too much in the press and then hear about it from Airbus later. This is symptomatic of how they present themselves. Corporate communications is something they were falling down on a lot. Their ability to handle things and get the right spin on it was woeful.”
The same articles also announced that Emirates intends to send a team of investigators to Airbus factories next month to assess whether the delivery dates provided by Airbus can be deemed accurate. Worse, Emirates has retaliated against Airbus by cancelling an order for 18 A340-600 aircraft (a $4.2 billion blow) and to lease extra Boeing 777s to replace some of the capacity lost by the A380 delays.
