China Southern to expand cargo fleet – good news for Boeing?

Liu also announced that China Southern plans to operate a fleet of 20 freighters within five years. The airline currently operates two 747 freighters and announced an order for six 777 freighters last year. All of the new freighters will also be 777s, Liu said.

If China Southern goes ahead with their plans it could mean a potential US$ 2.88 billion for Boeing. Via Air Cargo News.

Majority of China’s express mail/logistics industry run by foreign logistics companies

How much? Try 80%:

According to a research report the vast majority — 80% or more — of China’s overseas express mail services are provided by four foreign logistics giants. These are FedEx and UPS of the United States, DHL which is based in Germany and ex-Australian but now Dutch TNT.

How can domestic companies compete? Well, certainly not by competing in the free market, improving services and operations. No, no, what we need is some strong government regulations:

Worth noting is that the report suggested the Chinese government regulate the logistics industry to prevent the formation of monopolies and protect the interests of small and medium-sized firms.

Cargolux announces fuel surcharge reduction

It’s been awhile since I saw fuel surcharges drop to these levels:

Surcharges on all cargo shipments as of Feb. 5 will drop 5 cents to 45 cents per kilo of actual weight or the local currency equivalent.
