Boeing Breaking Records

Thanks to Airbus’ production delays and other problems with the A380 program (among others) Boeing had a fantastic year:

Many of the freighter orders were for the 747-8 freighter and 777 freighter, Boeing’s newest entries into this market segment. The new 747-8 freighter had 36 new orders in 2006, in addition to the 18 aircraft from the launch orders in November 2005 by Cargolux and Nippon Cargo Airlines. Among the new customers were Korean Air, which ordered five 747-8 freighters and five 777-200 freighters, and Atlas Air, which ordered 12 747-8 freighters worth $3.4 billion.

The orders last year marked the largest number of freighter orders for Boeing in a single year; surpassing the 53 freighters orders Boeing notched the year before. The 81 orders in 2006 “nearly equals” the total number of freighter orders for the past five years, said Boeing spokesman Bob Saling.

Great, kid. Now don’t get cocky.
