Schneider has been granted a road freight operators license in China which will allow them to provide domestic trucking services in the Chinese market. Schneider will be the first non-Chinese company to be allowed to offer trucking services in China.

This announcement follows DHL’s win of being able to provide domestic airfreight services in the growing Chinese domestic market.

Schneider is clearly targeting the Western owned businesses and their Chinese suppliers in the Tianjin region, however it appears that the company will be looking to expand geographically. Martin Winchell, managing director of Schneider Logistics China commented that his company was “able to help customers build out their intra-China network and grow their business in the various provinces”. source – Transport Intelligence

Given the fragmented and rudimentary nature of China’s domestic infrastructure, it will interesting to see how Schneider develops their service offerings over the coming months.
