“This accomplishment is unparalleled in the US transportation industry, and most significantly, in the public sector,” said David Church, vice-president of Bureau Veritas Certification, the ISO registrar certifying the port.
The dual achievement of being the first sea port and airport in the United States to achieve ISO 9000 certification was lauded by shippers as well.
“This explains why volumes at both gateways have increased by so much every year,” said Stuart Helmsley, chief logistics officer for Mills Brothers, a small appliance manufacturer in Fremont, California. “Depending on the load, we use both ocean vessels and air carriers for outbound distribution.”

Just thought this was cool as Oakland is pretty close to home and I was surprised that they are the first sea and air ports to be awarded ISO 9000.
