Three missiles were fired at the aircraft by unknown militiamen. One of the missiles hit the wing, the crew lost control and the aircraft crashed.

“I saw a large plane which was hit by a rocket and then fallen out of the sky into coast where it is now floating on water,” Ahmed Ali, an eye witness said.

The aircraft was chartered by the African Union and was carrying equipment to repair an aircraft at the airport.
