Trucks From Mexico to Enter the U.S.

I just read an excellent post by Eric Joiner from Freight Dawg regarding the recent law to allow trucks from Mexico to enter the United States. Below is an excerpt from the article.
I am not normally an alarmist on foreign ownership. In fact, I thought the unions shrill protests over the DP World purchase of P&O Ports was xenophobic in a major way. However, this situation is different in that it allows heavy vehicles on American roads that are subject to fewer safety standards. This poses a risk to the American traveling public that goes beyond theoretical, and may well cause accidents in the short term. Additional, longer term economic impact may come from a shift in port traffic and associated logistics functions from US ports to Mexican ports due to lower labor costs and transportation benefits afforded by NAFTA.
Eric’s blog is a great read for anyone interested in the logistics industry.
