Via Cargo News Asia:

Qinhuangdao Port, in northern China’s Hebei province, saw cargo throughput total 59.44 million tonnes in the first three months of 2007, up 33.5 percent year-on-year. The port set four new records in coal, groceries, oil and container throughput, handling 51.21 million tonnes, 6.83 million tonnes, 1.39 million tonnes and 58,293 TEUs respectively, up 34 percent, 31.3 percent, 25.2 percent and 45.5 percent year-on-year.

The Port of Yingkou, in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning, handled 31.40 million tonnes of cargo and 348,000 TEUs in the first quarter of this year, up 28.5 percent and 38.1 percent respectively from the corresponding period of 2006.

Expect more record breaking as China seeks to spread manufacturing to cheaper, less congested provinces and exports overall continue to grow.
