Back in January, Swizstick mentioned that Shanghai would most likely surpass Hong Kong this year as the world’s second largest port.
Well, according to an article on macauhub.com, that time has come.
Shanghai, which is China’s economic, industrial and financial center, has overtaken Hong Kong to become the world’s second-largest cargo port, behind Singapore, the Hong Kong South China morning post reported Thursday.
Shanghai is now the world’s second-largest port in terms of processing containers, and in the first quarter of the year saw movement of 5.88 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent units), 28 percent more than in the same period of 2006.
Hong Kong port processed 5.5 million TEU in the same period.
Any bets on when Yantian will surpass Hong Kong?
