3 Cargo Lines to Jump Ship

Three cargo lines are expected to switch from the Port of Los Angeles to the rival port of Long Beach due to the delayed expansion of the TraPac Terminal. The three lines are WanHai, Norasia, and Sinotrans Container Line.
Via The Daily Breeze:
An environmental impact report on an expansion of the TraPac terminal won’t be completed until the end of this year, according to Geraldine Knatz, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.
The last ship for the three lines will dock at the Port of Los Angeles on Nov. 8, according to port officials.
An executive from the Port of Los Angeles tried to downplay the by saying that, “Third party business moves between ports in this industry happen all the time,” Knatz said.
In my opinion, any loss of business (except unprofitable business) is rarely a good thing.
Although the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are in close proximity, they are two separate operating entities. I remember taking a tour of the Los Angeles Port with a few customers a couple of years ago and hearing one the port executives touting the benefits and advantages of working with their port rather than the port in Long Beach. I could definitely sense somewhat of a rivalry in his comments.
