Via Cargo News Asia:

The 15 countries are Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Shippers suffer an annual loss estimated at US$525 million because they don’t understand shipping practices, said Oentoro Surya, the chairman of Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA).

I’m not sure what I think about all this, although THC charges seem to vary widely between countries and certainly aren’t all that consistent. One of the things that drives shippers nuts are endless lists of surcharges – carriers could probably make the big picture a lot easier on their customers simply by rolling up fees into an all-in rate, but there are arguments against that as well.
