Matson to Raise Rates to Hawaii

The good news is that next years rate hike of 2.5 percent will be their lowest since 2003.

Starting Jan. 6, the company will charge an extra $75 per westbound container and $40 for each eastbound container. The company is also raising its terminal handling charge by $125 per westbound container and $60 per eastbound container.

Reasons for the rate hike include higher operating costs, new equipment, and potential new trucking regulations in California. Rival Horizon Lines has yet to announce whether they will implement a similar increase.
