I guess making major cut backs in 2007 in U.S. inland rail services wasn’t enough to improve Maersk Line’s bottom line after losing around $600 million in 2006. Now it appears Maersk Line is due to cut up to 3,00 jobs from its workforce:

The Danish shipper, which ranks fifth on Forbes’ 2007 list of the world’s most respected companies, announced plans to cut up to 3,000 jobs, or 12.0%, of the 25,000 workforce at Maersk Line, its container-shipping division. The company said that the restructuring program, designed to cut costs and boost profits, would involve reducing the number of regional units to 11 from 14 and also moving the trucking, rail, and logistics activities from the division.

No word yet on which U.S. divisions or offices will be affected, but you can be sure some of them will.
