Cargo Theft idiots: iPhone thieves in JFK get caught
The stupidity of these clowns make it easy for law enforcement to catch them:
The suspects’ alleged get rich scheme — which police say involved the theft of $93,000 worth of the popular iPod phone — backfired when the two men suddenly quit their jobs. That’s when their boss smelled something fishy, and noticed that they were sporting a brand new wardrobe made up of designer clothing.
Police say the suspects went and bought brand new clothes, sneakers, earrings, watches, and even used cars, including a Volkswagen Passat.
“I should also note the suspects were planning on moving to Florida today,” said Nassau County Det. Lt. John Azzata.

To try and cover their tracks, the couriers allegedly spent $100 at a Staples, and replaced the iPhones in the cargo with equal weights of paper products and shrinkwrap, shipping them via Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, where the larceny was discovered.
This reminds me of an instance in one of my previous companies where we received a shipment of computer monitors and noticed some of the boxes had been re-taped. Upon investigation, the boxes were filled with broken chunks of wooden pallets, rusty tools, even chunks of used tires, in an effort to match the weights of the original monitors. It was pretty easy to narrow down the list of those who had access to the cargo during transit and the police managed to figure things out pretty quickly, but at least in that case the workers involved didn’t quit their jobs and didn’t blow their money on stupid clothes, etc. Still, they did get caught.
