Hawaii’s interisland cargo industry in question following Aloha Airlines demise
By SwizStick • May 1st, 2008 • Category: Air Cargo, AirlinesHawaiian cargo is not my specialty, but in the wake of Aloha Airlines shutdown of cargo operations it turns out that they carried 85% of interisland cargo traffic, a huge void that appears difficult to fill:
Aloha abruptly closed its cargo unit on Monday, laying off 300 workers and cutting a vital transportation link for hundreds of businesses.
Tanja Janfruechte, spokeswoman for Los Angeles-based Pacific Air, confirmed the company’s interest in the interisland cargo business but declined further comment about the company’s plans.
It was unclear yesterday whether Pacific Air was interested in buying Aloha’s cargo unit or building its own service.

Aloha flew more than 100 million pounds of cargo each year, or about 85 percent of goods flown between O’ahu and the Neighbor Islands.
