Peak Season 2008 – Already?

Is it just me or does the start of peak season seem to be starting earlier and earlier? We are just barely half way through the year and many carriers are already starting to implement a peak season surcharge on ocean freight into the U.S.
NVOCC’s will most likely implement the PSS sometime between now and the middle of June. It will be interesting to see how much the surcharge will run this year especially with Asia Eastbound traffic down compared to last year. Honestly, I am not sure where the PSS amount will settle this year and I suspect that the surcharge will vary by carrier with inland IPI cargo generally higher than cargo that terminates at the port.
