World’s Top 50 Cargo Airports - 2008
By SwizStick • Jul 1st, 2008 • Category: Air Cargo, Airlines, FeaturedIt’s that time of the year again and Air Cargo World has published their annual list of the top 50 cargo airports in the world. Click here for the full article:
The latest Air Cargo World list of the world’s largest cargo airports, compiled from numbers from Airports Council International and the airports, shows Memphis International, home to FedEx, still at No. 1 in the world.
But Hong Kong International remains No. 1 for international air transport, and Hong Kong is edging closer to Memphis. Hong Kong’s growth outpaced Memphis again last year and it was even ahead of the FedEx hub again in the first few months of 2008, putting Hong Kong in reach of surpassing the world’s longtime top cargo airport.
You can access a pdf file of the full list of 50 airports here.
As the article mentions, you can see that Memphis and Hong Kong are running neck and neck, with Hong Kong posting a higher growth rate than Memphis. The two airports were also #1 and #2, respectively, last year with Hong Kong breathing down Memphis’ neck. Shanghai Pudong overtook the #5 spot with another double digit increase in tonnage while Tokyo Narita dropped from the #5 to the #7 spot. Not much of a surprise but the Chinese airports in the list for the most part posted double digit growth. Not surprisingly many of the U.S. airports saw tonnage declines.
