The rumour mill is in high gear with news that Fedex is interested in acquiring TNT. According to a report on the Financial Times, Fedex is in preliminary talks to acquire TNT.

TNT has long been rumored to be a takeover target and industry analysts say they believe FedEx would not acquire the business without competition. “Before any deal could go forward for the sale of TNT, we would expect UPS to become involved and a potential bidding war could follow,” Thomas R. Wadewitz of JP Morgan wrote in a research report. “We would not expect UPS to allow FDX to buy TNT without a fight.”

TNT is currently the 4th largest provider air express services worldwide. TNT shares jumped almost 20% on the news.
