Logistics

Logistics seems to be a catch all phrase for the movement of goods within the supply chain. I did a quick Google search for the definition of the term logistics and it returned an endless list of potential candidates. Here are a few:

Logistics – The management of both inbound and outbound materials, parts, supplies, and finished goods. Includes such activities as; production scheduling, forecasting, customer service, order entry, inventory control, and product allocation among customers.

Logistics – The planning, execution and control of the movement and placement of people and/or goods and of the supporting activities related to such movement and placement.

Logistics – The overall ; management of the way resources are moved to the areas where they are required.

Logistics – The procurement and physical transmission of material through the supply chain, from suppliers to customers.

Logistics – The total process of moving goods from a manufacturer to a customer in the most timely and cost-efficient manner possible.

LogisticsLogistics encompasses the management and running of all processes of a product from production to the consumer’s hands. It involves the warehousing, transportation, inventory, purchasing, packaging, operations, and the planning/coordination of all activities. The goal is capital efficiency in every project and supply chain.

Logistics – The process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finish goods, and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements.

Logistics – Is the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources, including energy and people, between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of consumers (frequently, and originally, military organizations). Logistics involve the integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material-handling, and packaging.

LogisticsLogistics management is that part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements. -CSCMP defintion

hi im sasmit gavai a student of engg, im making a project on weight transmission in logistics.
i would like to explain it in short.it goes like when the containers are lifted by the crane at the same time their weight is calculated and sent to the control room where this weight is updated by the database.which reduces time for calculatuion of weight .
