Slightly off-topic but certainly relevant for us world traders looking at new or existing markets. Transparency International (TI) publishes a yearly Corruption Perceptions Index on countries around the world, ranking them from a low of 1.0 to a high of 10.0. Here’s more on the CPI from TI’s website:

The Transparency International CPI measures the perceived levels of public-sector corruption in a given country and is a composite index, drawing on different expert and business surveys. The 2008 CPI scores 180 countries (the same number as the 2007 CPI) on a scale from zero (highly corrupt) to ten (highly clean).

There’s a handy map here. And here is the link to the actual table of countries and their CPI. Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden are tops with a CPI of 9.3 followed closely by Singapore at 9.2. The U.S. is in the top 20 but a bit lower at 7.3. No surprise at the bottom of the list: Somalia, Myanmar, Iraq, Haiti, and Afghanistan. If you want to compare to the 2007 CPI you can find that one here.
