We have been paying special attention to the progress of the Prince Rupert Port in Canada and recently had an exclusive interview with Shaun Stevenson of the Prince Rupert Port Authority. If you are currently contemplating using the port for your imports out of Asia, I highly suggest reading the interview.

Container traffic at the Prince Rupert Fairview terminal showed phenomenal growth from first quarter 2008 to third quarter 2008 with an increase in traffic of 281 percent. The main reason for the growth was because of the COSCO-CKYH Alliance’s weekly CEN service that began calling on the port July 8 with 7,400 & 8,200 TEU vessels.

Via Rupertport.com:

“Our month-over-month container throughput is seeing significant growth,” notes Prince Rupert Port Authority President & CEO Don Kru”This certainly speaks well of the demonstrated velocity of the entire supply chain system and shippers’ satisfaction with the terminal’s performance.”
