Anyone else notice that ocean freight rates are declining? I was recently approached by an NVO with rates out of China to the U.S. that are approximately $100 to $200 lower than what was offered back in November. Even with the carriers implementing a pre-Chinese New Year peak, rates appear to be headed in a downward trend. I would be curious to see what others are seeing in the market.

It would be good also to have news updates on the rates into Asia Pacific. General info on containerised and conventional cargo and operators.
Hi Allen,
Thanks for the suggestion. We have been somewhat US import centric as it relates to freight rates. We will put some additional thought in bringing news and insights as it relates export rates and services out of the US.
I have seen base container rates go down in this first quarter, however the increased BAF more or less equals out the drop. No, no real overall change in my sector.
Thanks Stasi, I am seeing the same thing. I met with a large carrier today and the sales reps comment was that even though rates are on the decline now, he expects to see rates rebound somewhat around the April timeframe. Just in time for the contracts to be signed
