…is back in business. Our apologies for the few days of downtime last week, but we were in the process of making a couple of enhancements to the calculator that we hope you will find useful.

For those who are familiar with our calculator, the original version was limited to only six line items. Great for calculating the weight and dimensions of small shipments, not so great for shipments with multiple pieces and dimensions. We have now added the capability to add 6 additional line items bringing the total to 12.

Secondly, we have added the functionality to email the results of the calculator. This makes it very easy to enter your transportation mode, pieces, weight, and dimensions, and then email those results to your freight forwarder for quotation, your supplier, or anyone else who may benefit.

You can access the calculator under “tools” from our homepage or simply click the link “Volume Weight Calculator”.

We hope you like the enhancements and please let us know what you think of the new calculator. If you find it useful, please forward the calculator link to your colleagues in the industry.

Must see video of the day, via ShopFloor.org:

In “Tax Attack,” Patterson highlights that businesses make everyday decisions based on corporate tax systems and that our high business taxes are making American corporations look internationally for their offices, banking, labor and operations. Patterson, who lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, is a business owner himself, providing film and postproduction services to companies including retailers, business firms, nonprofit organizations and natural gas companies.

Allroadsleadtochina has an excellent article about “The Box”; a book about the history of the ocean container and it’s impact on world trade. Allroadsleadstochina comments on how the “box” contributed to China’s extraordinary growth over the last 20 years. Check out allroadsleadtochina for the entire article as well as a link to more information about the book. I’m looking forward to reading this book next month.

the first-ever magazine dedicated to covering global supply chain management issues from a China perspective…and is already being touted as the “must-read” magazine for global supply chain professionals.

The magazine is available as a free subscription only for senior level supply chain executives and senior managers. You can subscribe here.
